Outage Preparedness Checklist: Light, Phone Power and Supplies
Make a short household plan before shopping. Start with the supplies you already own, how you will receive official updates and how you will contact each other if household power or internet is interrupted. Public outage maps can be partial or delayed.
Start with practical basics
Keep a flashlight, suitable spare batteries, charged devices and a compatible backup phone charger where you can find them. Review food, drinking water and household needs using an official emergency-kit checklist. Include pets and accessibility needs in your plan.
Size backup power for a specific job
A phone power bank and a larger portable power station serve different purposes. List the devices you intend to charge, their input requirements and the connectors you need. Compare rated energy capacity, output limits, charging time and the manufacturer’s runtime assumptions. Do not treat an advertised maximum runtime as a guarantee for your equipment.
Read the complete food and water instructions
For packaged emergency food, compare calories, allergens, preparation instructions, water requirements and storage conditions. A serving count alone does not describe a full day’s meals. For water equipment, verify the exact product’s stated purpose and limitations; follow your water provider’s instructions during an advisory.
Optional preparedness shopping (affiliate links): If you need supplies after checking what you already have, you can browse My Patriot Supply or Emergency Essentials / BePrepared. Signal911Live may earn a commission if you purchase through these links, at no additional cost to you. These are shopping options, not emergency instructions or independently tested recommendations. Compare ingredients, water needs, storage requirements, prices and shipping before ordering.
Keep your information sources ready
Open power outage coverage and official water-alert sources. Save your utility’s official outage reporting and status links separately so you can reach them directly. The Signal911Live phone shortcut needs an internet connection; it does not provide offline coverage or push emergency alerts.
Official planning resources
Use Ready PA’s power outage guidance and Ready.gov’s emergency-kit checklist to build your plan. For power-dependent medical equipment, arrange an outage plan with your care team and equipment provider.
This checklist has not tested or ranked products. Check current specifications, warranties, return terms and any required subscriptions before purchasing. Free weekly location reports are dated roundups, not outage alerts or emergency instructions.
